Privacy Policy — Aura Companion

1. Overview

Aura Companion is a personal AI assistant that runs on your own device and your connected Aura-Core server. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data. Your conversations, location, reminders, and sensor data remain fully under your control at all times.

Definitions: "Aura-Core server" refers to the self-hosted server you operate to run Aura's AI features.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect or store any of the following on our servers:

Personal identity information (name, email, phone number)
Account credentials or authentication tokens
Contact lists
Photos, media, or files
Payment information
Advertising identifiers
Analytics or usage tracking data
Cloud-stored conversation logs
Biometric or health data

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking libraries of any kind.

3. Information Processed Locally

Aura Companion accesses device features only to provide core functionality. All processing happens locally on your device or on your self-hosted Aura-Core server.

3.1 Location (Optional)

If you enable location sharing, the app accesses your device's location to provide:

Movement awareness and driving safety alerts
Proximity-based shopping reminders
Family presence tracking (Track Me circle)
Contextual time-and-place reminders

Where location data goes:

It is sent only to your own Aura-Core server if you have configured one.
It is never sent to ExploreWithAJ or any third party.
If you use the remote tunnel (api.explorewithaj.com), encrypted traffic passes through Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare cannot decrypt or access the content.

3.2 Microphone (Optional)

The microphone is used only for:

Voice input and real-time conversation
Wake-word detection ("Aura" or "Mini")
Voice command recognition

Prominent disclosure: When the app first requests microphone permission, it displays an in-app notice stating:

"Aura Companion uses your microphone to hear your voice for wake-word detection and conversation. Audio is processed locally or on your own server. Nothing is recorded or sent to us."

Audio is processed locally on your device or on your Aura-Core server. We do not store, record, or transmit audio to any third-party service.

3.3 Background Microphone (Optional)

If you enable always-on wake-word detection, the microphone may remain active in the background. This is clearly indicated in the app with a persistent notification. You can disable background listening at any time in Settings.

3.4 Device Sensors (Optional)

The app may access motion and orientation sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer) for movement awareness and driving safety features. Sensor data is not collected, stored, or shared.

4. Connection to Aura-Core Server (Optional)

If you connect the app to your personal Aura-Core server:

All data stays within your own hardware environment.
No data is transmitted to ExploreWithAJ or any third party.
You control all storage, deletion, and retention policies.
The app does not have access to server data beyond what you explicitly grant.

If you connect remotely, traffic is encrypted in transit using HTTPS via Cloudflare's tunnel infrastructure.

5. Third-Party Services

Aura Companion does not integrate with or transmit data to:

Google Analytics, Firebase, or any analytics platform
Advertising networks or data brokers
Social media platforms
External AI/LLM services (all inference runs on your own hardware)

The only external network connections are:

Your own Aura-Core server (if configured).
Cloudflare's tunnel infrastructure for encrypted transport when connecting remotely. Cloudflare acts as an encrypted passthrough and cannot decrypt your data.

6. Data Retention

On-device data: Stored locally until you disable permissions, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
Server data: Retained on your Aura-Core server until you manually delete it.
After uninstall: All app-related local data is removed. Server data remains under your control.

7. Data Sharing

We do not share any data with:

Third parties
Advertisers
Data brokers
Government agencies

We cannot share what we do not collect.

8. Children's Privacy

Aura Companion does not collect personal information from children. The app is safe for general use but is not specifically targeted toward children.

9. Security

Because Aura Companion does not collect or store personal data on our servers, your privacy risk is minimal. All data processed through your Aura-Core server remains under your physical and administrative control. Remote connections are encrypted via HTTPS.

10. Your Rights

You may at any time:

Disable individual permissions (location, microphone, sensors)
Disconnect your Aura-Core server
Delete any local data stored on your device
Uninstall the app to remove all app-related data

Aura Companion does not retain any of your information after uninstall.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the app indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
